Managed Account Access to Content Databases


When saving Reading categories in the Legeris Settings List you may get a Correlation Error. On further investigation of the ULS logs you may see the following error/s:

SQL Database '<DatabaseName>' on SQL Server instance '<ServerName>' not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.  Cannot open database "<DatabaseName>" requested by the login. The login failed.  Login failed for user '<ManagedAccount:DomainName\UserName>'.


The cause of this problem, as described in the error message, is that the Managed Account doesn't not have permissions to the Content Database/s. To resolve the problem:

  1. Logon to a Server in the SharePoint farm with Farm Admin privileges
  2. Start the SharePoint Management Shell
  3. Run the following command replacing the URL and Managed Account values: 

$w = Get-SPWebApplication -identity <URL of the Web Application>
$w.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity("<Managed Account>")

Note: You will need run the command above for each Web Application, excluding Central Admin, that the Legeris.Service.WSP solution is deployed too.
